Private resource notice: This is not a government office and has no authority over Western Tidewater Regional Jail or any other agency. We cannot confirm a person’s custody status, release anyone, post or accept bond, or pull official booking or release records. Contact the office that holds the record or controls the custody decision.

Suffolk Records and Custody Contacts

Suffolk is an independent city, and its primary local custody facility is Western Tidewater Regional Jail. The regional jail serves more than one locality, so a person held at its Suffolk address may have a case in Suffolk, Franklin, Isle of Wight, Hampton, or another jurisdiction. Start with the office responsible for the fact you need. Jail staff maintain the local custody event, the proper court maintains the legal order or disposition, and VADOC maintains state custody or supervision information.

WTRJ Release-Record Requests

Begin with WTRJ’s FOIA Rights and Responsibilities notice. Address the request to the current custodian named there.

Identify the person, booking episode, and a narrow date range. Ask for the recorded departure date and time, release or transfer type, releasing order or case number, and receiving agency when maintained. Request electronic copies and a cost estimate if needed.

A records request should seek identified records rather than ask staff to research an open-ended question. Virginia FOIA permits reasonable actual costs and an estimate or deposit process. Some information may be withheld or redacted under applicable law, so do not assume that a full institutional file will be available. Verify the records contact in the WTRJ notice before submitting the request.

The court record can explain a bond order, dismissal, sentence, or other legal outcome, but it is not a minute-by-minute jail log. Western Tidewater Regional Jail remains the source for the physical release or transfer event. Circuit Court generally holds felony trials, appeals, and its own criminal records. General District Court handles misdemeanors, traffic matters, and preliminary felony proceedings.

The Virginia court case-information hub routes public searches by court level. Suffolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court has restricted juvenile and domestic records rules; its official court page provides current contact information without implying that protected case history is public.
